The Pryor Art Gallery is hosting the exhibition “Photographic Histories of the Grand Ole Opry” until December 17th
Columbia State Community College’s Pryor Art Gallery features photographs by Les Leverett and Marty Stuart in the “Photographic Stories of the Grand Ole Opry” exhibit. The exhibition is open to the public until December 17.
“We are delighted that these two friends, Les Leverett and Marty Stuart, are exhibiting their work together,” said Rusty Summerville, Interim Curator of the Pryor Art Gallery.
Grammy-winning photographer Les Leverett has been shooting at the Grand Ole Opry for 32 years. In addition to his inclusion in the Walkway of Stars of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Leverett received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Bluegrass Association and the Billboard Magazine Award for Country Album Cover of the Year for ” Bubbling Over ”by Dolly Parton.
Both a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry, Marty Stuart’s photograph illustrates the country music scene from an insider’s perspective. Five-time Grammy-winning musician, Stuart continues to release music while his photos have filled several books.
A reception celebrating the exhibition will be held at the Pryor Art Gallery on Thursday, November 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“Come see Les and Marty’s work,” Summerville said. “Les will be happy to tell you a story or two about the country music greats he has known. Plus, there will be more stories to hear from Grand Ole Opry archivist Jen Larson, another great storyteller.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Pryor Art Gallery is located in the Waymon L. Hickman building on the Columbia campus located at 1665 Hampshire Pike. For more information on this exhibition, please visit www.ColumbiaState.edu/PryorGallery.
