Steamship Authority target of attached ransomware

(June 3, 2021) The Steamship Authority was the target of a ransomware attack on Wednesday that shut down the shipping line’s ticketing and reservation systems, and resulted in travel delays.

There was no impact on the safety of ship operations and no trips were canceled, said SSA spokesman Sean Driscoll.

The attack did not affect the ship’s radar or the ships’ GPS functionality.

“There were a few small delays as agents had to process paper tickets. The electronics were not working, ”said Rob Ranney, Nantucket representative on the SSA board of directors.
